2008 / Hold Still
Hold Still is a series of images and video completed in the last months of analog television broadcasting in the United States. Focusing on the flickering, waving, vibrant colors and repetitively rising horizon lines of untuned cable stations, I looked to archive a disappearing aspect of technology — a visual biproduct of analog broadcasting.
Five cameras were used in this project including two digital cameras: Canon G9 and Canon 20D, two film cameras: Nikon F80 and Mamiya 7, and a Polaroid instant camera. Each camera differs in film or sensor size and image quality, exploring the mechanical limitations of each and touching on the current transition in photography from conventional to digital picture taking and print making.
